This publication accompanies an exhibition organised within the framework of the Krzysztof Penderecki Festival. Reproductions of famous representations of the dance of death, opera drafts, and photographic documentation of the performances are preceded by essays: T. Chrzanowski's “The Theology of Horror”, M. Tomaszewski's “Listening to Penderecki”, and R. Chłopicka's “Theme of Death in Penderecki's Musical Theatre”. The publication is supplemented with a list of Penderecki's major works and selected literature.
