Thomas Virnich's Flying Catacombs is a large sculpture consisting of 25 individual parts up to four meters high, which can be assembled in different ways. The model for this large sculpture is the studio and home of the artist and his family, a former school building in Mönchengladbach, which he has recreated in a kind of model and supplemented with utopian motifs. Visible are illuminated fragments of buildings, spaceship models, street lamps and trees with roots, all of which stand on their heads or move freely in space. The exhibition was organized by the Museum Wiesbaden in collaboration with the Kunstmuseum Kloster Unser Lieben Frauen in Magdeburg, the Neues Museum in Nuremberg and the Abteibergmuseum in Mönchengladbach.

Foreword by Uwe Jens Gellner, Lucius Grisebach, Veit Loers and Volker Rattemeyer, text by Volker Rattemeyer
